It’s the feeling when you see the first bit of green make it’s way through the snow after a long winter. When you’ve been bundled up for months and then all of a sudden you are able to step outside and shed your layers, feeling the warmth against your skin. It’s the realization that we were created for something so much more: to be a part of the greatest love affair in history.

God pursues his children with relentless love. Sometimes we just let our pride and selfish desires hinder our ability to realize it. But once we shed ourselves and let go of everything we are holding onto so tightly, God is waiting to pour out His love and shower us with encouragement.

Over the past year, God has brought me through the fire to show me that I won’t burn. He lured me into the desert to reveal His glory and power in bringing me food and water. There’s no denying that God sustains His people. And throughout the past few months He has revealed truth, goodness and love unlike I’ve ever experienced.

If I’ve learned anything over the past six months, it’s that I refuse to settle for anything less than radical abandonment to the one and only being who satisfies, comforts and fulfills all our needs.

I believe that the heart is the deepest, most central part of our being and without it, there is no life. And a life without heart is one not worth living. This is seen clearly in the fact that every person longs to be in a great love affair, an adventure. When we ignore issues of the heart we feel restless, weary and vulnerable.

It’s not enjoyable.

No one should settle for this empty lifestyle. The true story of each person is that of his or her heart. But a high-paced society assaults our heart and forces us to live out of “oughts” instead of “wants.” When we ignore the issues of the heart, we essentially stop living. In order to recover the lost life we must go on a journey, an adventure with God.

Take time to take care of your heart. Fill it with truth and love. Respond to its desires and dreams. And know that there is a God who cares for you deeply. A God who created you and has your best interest at heart. He promises to sustain you, and He is always faithful.

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you.” Psalm 55:22
