oh, freedom

Many people say, “Who will show us better times?”
Let your face smile on us, LORD.7 You have given me greater joy
than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. – Psalm 4: 6-7

Oh, freedom. You’ve made you’re home in my heart. For there is nothing to fear, nothing to hide from. You call me into the light, and into the shelter of the Almighty’s wings. There is joy, there is peace.

This Psalm was in my daily reading today, and it was like it jumped out of the page and immediately into my heart. It was just the reminder I needed. First of all, what a beautiful image of the face of the Creator smiling upon us. The thought takes my breathe away. When we’re in His presence, we lack nothing. Including, safety, which has been a major area of concern for me lately.

The past two weeks or so, I’ve found it difficult to fall asleep, and this verse resonated strongly with my soul today. For the first time in my life, I live in a area that many would consider less than “safe,” but I know it’s where God has placed me. And He continues to remind me that He is our refuge. In His arms is the safest place to be.

How beautiful that God promises to give us greater joy, peace, and safety than anything the world can offer. That’s freedom.

I’m going to sleep well tonight …
